Privacy Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is: 

• to inform users of the BEFRED website about the information that is collected from them when they visit this site, how this information is used, if it is disclosed and the ways in which we protect users’ privacy; and
• to inform those who submit abstracts to the BEFRED website about their data protection rights.

Please note that this policy does not cover the privacy practices of other websites to which there are links from this site.

Data Protection Act 1998

The Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”) establishes rights for individuals who disclose their personal information to any organisation for any purposes involving processing of that information. Any organisation which processes information about living individuals is a data controller for the purposes of the Act; that is a person who determines the purposes for which and the manner in which any personal data are, or are to be, processed. A data controller is required by the Act to ensure that the data subject has, is provided with, or has made readily available to him certain specified information, including the data controller's identity, the identity of any other person to whom he may disclose the information, and the purpose or purposes for which the data are intended to be processed.

The data controller for this site is the British Equestrian Federation (“BEF”).

Information collected from use of the site

Certain information about your session on the BEFRED site is collected automatically. This includes but may not be limited to:

• the Internet domain or IP address from which you access our website;

• the date and time you access our site;
• the pages you visit.

We do not make use of a web site visitor's IP address, or other session information that is automatically captured by its web server, for any purpose other than system administration and to provide statistics that are used to evaluate use of the site.

Personal information contained in abstracts

Abstracts submitted to the BEFRED website may contain personal information. Such information will only be used for the purposes of providing the following services to users:

• A searchable database of abstracts of research relating to equine topics;
• A list of establishments which carry out research on equine topics.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data often created when you use a website and stored in the cookie directory of your computer. Only Session Cookies are used. These are necessary for system administration purposes and are deleted when a visit to the site is terminated. The pages that are visited are tracked for analysis purposes only and the information is not used to make any assumptions about a visitor's particular interests.

We do not collect any additional personal information through the use of cookies.

Email

If you contact us via email, the information is treated in the same way as ordinary mail. The information collected is solely to allow us to respond to your enquiry.

We do not make any personal information available to any third party. We may, for various reasons, collate information on enquiries, but no personal information will be included. We will include you on BEFRED mailing lists only at your own request.

Subject access requests/further information

As a “data subject” under the Act you have various rights, including a right of access to any personal data being held about you by the BEF as data controller.
